It grows in Chihuahua State, the Federal District, Puebla and in Oaxaca.  Mexican Arnica is a perennial from the Asteraceae family that can reach 15 to 20 inches tall.  This plant has simple leaves that are alternate.  The leaves are ovate and serrulate.  Flowers are corymbs of yellow from July to August.  These perennials produce achenes. Mexican Arnica prefers a sunny location and can tolerate temperatures down to -12°C (10° F).  Grow Mexican Arnica on dry to moderately moist soil.  The soil should be gritty-sandy or gritty-loamy soil.  Grow from seeds or root (rhizome) divisions.  The flowers are normally taken when they are in full, fresh bloom in mid to late Summer.  The stem is not used and can be discarded.  Rhizomes can be collected in the fall after the foliage has died off.  Rhizomes are one to two inches long, cylindrical, and are often scarred where old stems have broken off.  The rhizomes are dried and powdered and used in the same proportions as dried flowers. Store as a tincture, as dried flowers, or as a ground powder in a cool, dry place.  Refrigeration or freezing is recommended but not required. It is for external use only. Contraindications & Toxicity: Using Arnica on your skin can cause irritation with prolonged use. You should never apply it to an open wound or broken skin, as the flower has toxic effects.  This can cause irritation and actually worsen the problem. With prolonged use, Arnica can cause problems such as eczema and blisters. Arnica flower should only be used externally because it can cause internal problems due to toxicity. Avoid application over large areas of broken skin or internal use. Avoid with known allergy to Asteraceae family. Internal use may result in gastroenteritis and with increasing dosage cardiac arrest due to helanin interfering with myocardial recovery in between contractions. With prolonged external use, edematous dermatitis may result with the formation of small vesicles. Helanalin and its esters are sensitizing agents and act as allergens, can cause muscle paralysis & death.     Sources: https://spiritartsandherbs.com/sources **IMPORTANT INFORMATON: Products are sold as curio items for entertainment purposes only and based upon historical and magical uses.  We do not imply or guarantee that any items provide specific abilities, powers, outcomes, remedies, or treatments.
